Aging. An inevitable part of life we can't avoid.

Have you ever stood before the mirror and wondered where wrinkles came from? Of course, there are genetics (you can take that one up with your family). Aside from genetics, there is also:

  • loss of tissue volume, fat, bone, collagen + elastin (we start losing collagen as early as 20 years of age)

  • gravity

  • repeated facial movements (yes, years of resting b**ch face can cause wrinkles).

For these reasons, it's important to focus on prevention as early as you can so you can bypass correction in the future. Some of us seize up at the thought of skin care regimens. Others seize the day. No matter where you stand, we promise, it doesn't have to be hard.

Compare anti-aging skin care to brushing your teeth.

It’s important to do, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend a huge amount of time or money on it. You want to keep it simple. Be committed and stay consistent.

A simple routine should include these scientifically proven anti-aging ingredients:

1. Vitamin C

Not only is vitamin C a go-to to boost your immune system, but it’s also incredibly useful as an aging skin care ingredient. Why? Because vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and it helps stimulate collagen production, both of which help your skin fight off signs of aging.

2. Vitamin A & Bakuchiol

Another key ingredient in anti-aging skin care is retinal, which is a powerful vitamin A derivative found in Sorella Apothecary's Resurfacing Elixir. Bakuchiol is a plant-based retinol alternative found in Sorella Apothehcary's Facial In A Bottle. The powerhouse in the organic skincare world, Eminence Organics, created its own Natural Retinol Alternative (NRA) which is found in its Age Corrective line.

These ingredients work in similar ways by encouraging exfoliation and increasing cell turnover (meaning it will help old skin cells shed away, replacing them with newer, healthier, skin cells). They can also help minimize fine lines and wrinkles by slowing the breakdown of collagen.

3. Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is the main component that gives your skin structure and is responsible for that plump and hydrated look. Among other benefits, this badass ingredient can help increase the moisture content in your skin, which your skin benefits from by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and improving wound healing. Our must-have products containing HA are the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum, Hydrator, Masque, and Body Lotion.

4. Peptides

Your body makes collagen naturally. But as we know, over time, collagen production decreases which can cause wrinkles and dull out the skin. Peptides (polypeptides) are amino acids that make up certain proteins needed by the skin. Collagen is made of three polypeptide chains, therefore incorporating peptides into your skincare routine can help your skin produce collagen. More collagen= firmer, younger-looking skin. Introduce products like the Marine Flower Peptide Concentrate, Serum, Eye Cream, and Night Cream to your skincare regime.

5. Zinc aka SPF!!!

This is by far the most important ingredient in your anti-aging (and all other) skincare routine that everyone should be using every day, all year round. Read more about this golden rule in our last blog post.
